Customer Service Resume: Examples (2026)

Customer service representative resume example with CSAT and resolution results, summaries, bullets, skills and official job figures, plus a free template.

Template:

An internet provider call center representative applying for a remote chat and email support job at a software company.

Why this resume works

  • Each bullet uses a metric the center tracks and compares it to something: a 94 percent satisfaction score against a center average of 86, and first-contact resolution up from 71 to 83 percent.
  • The troubleshooting checklist that 40 agents now use shows she improves the process, not just her own numbers, which a support team at a software company values.
  • Chat is named in her bullets and summary, and Zendesk is in her skills, because the target job is written support and those are the words its posting uses.

Customer service work is measured more closely than almost any other job. Your center already tracks how satisfied customers are after each contact, how often you solve a problem the first time, how long calls take, and how your quality reviews score. A hiring manager reading your resume wants those same numbers, because they show how you will do on their queue. Saying you are patient and a good listener is expected; a satisfaction score above the team average proves it.

This guide explains what to put on a customer service representative resume for phone, chat, email and in-person roles, which numbers to include and how to phrase them, summary and bullet examples from first job to team lead, the skills and software postings ask for, the few credentials that exist, and a full example for a call center agent moving to a software company's support team. Coming from a store counter? The retail sales associate resume example shows how to count in-person service.

How to write a customer service representative resume

1

Name the channel in your headline

Phone, chat, email, social media and in-person support call for different strengths. A headline such as Customer Service Representative, Phone and Chat Support tells the reader straight away whether you fit their queue. If the job is remote, say you have worked remotely before, if you have.

2

Put your two best metrics in the summary

Customer satisfaction (CSAT), first-contact resolution, quality review scores, net promoter score and retention saves are the numbers support managers know. Pick the two where you beat the team or center average and give both figures. Then add your years, the kind of customers you help and the role you want.

3

Describe the volume and the problems you solve

Your first bullet for each job gives contacts per day and what they are about: billing, orders, returns, technical setup, insurance claims. Resolve 55 to 65 calls a day about billing and outages tells a manager the pace you can handle and the topics you already know.

4

Show how you handle hard contacts

Every support job has angry customers, cancellations and escalations. Give a number for how you handled them: accounts saved from cancelling, complaints resolved without a supervisor, escalations cut. It answers the question every interviewer asks: tell me about a difficult customer.

5

Name the software you use

Help desk and CRM tools (Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud, Freshdesk, Gorgias), contact center phone systems (Genesys, Five9, NICE) and knowledge bases. Postings list them, and many hiring systems search for them by name. Add typing speed only if the posting asks for it.

6

Add languages, education and any credential

A second language is valuable in support and often paid more, so list it with your level. Then your diploma or degree and a customer service credential if you have one. Keep the whole resume to one page.

Licenses and certifications for customer service representatives

Most customer service jobs need no license, and training usually happens on the job. The one common exception: the Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that representatives who give information about finance and insurance may need a state license, which usually means passing an exam. Rules vary by state, and employers often help you prepare. Optional credentials that can help:

  • HDI Customer Service Representative (HDI-CSR) from HDI: a course and online multiple choice exam for people in call centers, customer service and support centers.
  • RISE Up Customer Service and Sales from the NRF Foundation: an online course and exam on customer needs, satisfaction and problem solving, built with large retailers.
  • A state license for insurance or financial service roles that require one. The employer will tell you which license the job needs.

The example, line by line

The example is for Linh, a call center representative at an internet provider who wants a remote written support role with a software company. Here is how the page works.

Headline: Customer Service Representative, Phone and Chat Support. Chat is the bridge to the new job, so it is in the first line a recruiter reads.

Summary: five years with customers, three and a half of them in a contact center, then her two strongest metrics (94 percent satisfaction in 2025, first-contact resolution from 71 to 83 percent), her HDI-CSR and Vietnamese, and the role she wants.

Current job: five bullets. Volume and topics first (55 to 65 contacts a day), then satisfaction against the center average of 86 percent, the checklist that 40 agents use, 310 customers kept from cancelling, and 4 new agents mentored a quarter. Each one answers a different interview question.

Hotel job: one line with 120+ guests a day at a 180-room hotel. It shows she has handled problems face to face, not only on the phone.

Skills, certificate, education and languages: the help desk and phone systems are named, the HDI-CSR is listed with its year, and Vietnamese is listed as fluent, which many support teams can use.

Mistakes that hurt customer service resumes

  • No metrics at all. Support managers live in CSAT, resolution and quality scores. If they are missing, the reader assumes they were average or worse.
  • A score with nothing to compare it to. 90 percent satisfaction could be low in one center and excellent in another. Add the team or center average.
  • Not saying what you support. Billing, technical setup and insurance claims are different jobs. Name the topics, since a new employer is often hiring for the same kind of questions.
  • Listing soft skills only. A skills section of patient, friendly, good listener reads the same as every other applicant's. Name the systems you use and let your bullets show the rest.
  • Typos in a writing job. Chat and email support is judged on writing. A spelling mistake on the resume is taken as a sample of your replies, so read it aloud before you send it.

Frequently asked questions

What should a customer service representative put on a resume?

A headline naming the channel you work in, a summary with your two best metrics, each job with contact volume, topics and results, the help desk and phone systems you use, languages, education and any customer service credential.

What metrics should I include on a customer service resume?

Customer satisfaction (CSAT), first-contact resolution, quality review scores, net promoter score, average handle time and retention saves. Include the ones where you beat the team or center average, and give both numbers.

How do I write a customer service resume with no experience?

Use any job or activity where you helped people: restaurant host, cashier, volunteer, receptionist, tutoring. Give numbers such as guests served or calls answered, and show you are comfortable with computers and new systems.

Should I include average handle time on my resume?

Only if it is good and your employer values it. A short handle time can look like rushing customers, so pair it with a satisfaction or resolution score.

What skills do employers look for in customer service?

Clear communication, problem solving, patience with upset customers and good writing for chat and email, plus the software the posting names, such as Zendesk or Salesforce Service Cloud.

Is a certification needed for customer service jobs?

No, for most jobs. Optional credentials include the HDI-CSR and the NRF Foundation's Customer Service and Sales credential. Roles giving information about insurance or finance may need a state license.

How do I show remote work experience on a customer service resume?

Add remote to the job title or location line, and mention the tools you used from home, your internet setup if the posting asks, and a result that shows you worked well without supervision.

How long should a customer service resume be?

One page. Hiring managers for support roles read many applications, and one page with clear metrics is easy to compare.

Should I list languages on a customer service resume?

Yes. Many support teams need Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin or other languages and may pay more for them. List each language with your level, and mention it in your summary if the posting asks for it.

How can I move from customer service into another role?

Show the work beyond your queue: training new agents, writing help articles, handling escalations or saving accounts. Those lead to team lead, quality, account management and sales roles.
