Getting Started

What is CVPoet?

CVPoet is a free online resume and CV builder. Pick a template, fill in your details, and export to PDF — no watermark, no credit card required. You can also publish your resume to a public link at cvpoet.com/@you and share it on LinkedIn or in a job application.

How do I create my first resume?

Open the builder, start with Classic for free, or choose Compact, Creative, or Bold with a Job Search Pass, and fill in the form. A live preview updates as you type. When you're ready, hit Download to get your PDF or Publish to get a shareable link. Create a free account before editing. Save your changes in the editor.

Do I need an account to use CVPoet?

Yes. Create a free account with Google, Apple or an email link before editing a resume. You can browse guides, examples and template previews without signing in. Your account keeps your saved resumes available between devices. New accounts land on the Free plan immediately, with no credit card needed. A Job Search Pass (unlimited public resume pages and more AI writing help) is optional.

Can I import an existing resume?

Yes. Sign in, open My Resumes, and choose Import resume. Upload a PDF, Word document, image, or text file. Free includes one successful import per account, across all supported formats, separate from your one-time AI writing trial. Further imports require a Job Search Pass and use its weekly AI allowance. Each import creates a separate CV, so it does not replace an existing draft.

Account & Authentication

How do I sign up for an account?

You can sign up using your email address (we send a magic link — no password to remember) or with Google or Apple single sign-on. All authentication is secure and encrypted.

Can I sign in with Google or Apple?

Yes. We support OAuth single sign-on with both Google and Apple accounts. This provides a secure, convenient way to access your account without remembering another password.

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

CVPoet uses passwordless magic-link sign-in for email accounts — there's no password to forget. Just enter your email on the sign-in page and we'll send you a one-tap login link. If you use Google or Apple sign-in, manage your password through their respective platforms.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from your account settings page. This action is permanent and will remove all your resumes, drafts, and account information within 30 days. Download a PDF of any resume you want to keep before you delete.

Pricing & Billing

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) and debit cards through our secure payment processor, Stripe. All transactions are encrypted and PCI-compliant.

Is CVPoet really free?

Yes — the core resume builder is free forever. You can create unlimited drafts, export to PDF with no watermark, and publish 1 resume to a public link. A Job Search Pass ($12 once for 30 days, or $29 once for 90 days) unlocks unlimited AI tailoring to job descriptions, AI cover letters, unlimited public resume pages, much more AI writing help, imports of scanned or photographed resumes, and unlimited folders. Is the pass a subscription?

No. You pay once and the pass runs for 30 or 90 days, then it just ends. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel. When it ends your account moves back to the Free plan: your resumes and drafts are never deleted, and any unused one-time free writing trial and import remain available; used free trials do not reset. Buying a pass while one is running adds its days after the current end date.

Do you offer refunds?

Yes, within 7 days of buying a pass, as long as fewer than 20 AI actions have been used since the purchase: email [email protected] and we refund the full amount to the original payment method. A refund ends the pass. After 7 days, or once 20 or more AI actions have been used, the payment is not refunded. See our Terms of Service for the full policy.

What happens if my payment fails?

You are not charged and your account stays on the Free plan, with nothing lost. You can try again with another card.

Resume Features

How many templates are available?

CVPoet ships 4 templates: Classic, Compact, Creative, and Bold. Classic is free; Compact, Creative, and Bold require a Job Search Pass. All templates are single-column and ATS-friendly, work in both light and dark mode, look right on mobile, and produce clean PDFs.

Can I customize the design of my resume?

Yes. Classic and accent colors are free. Compact, Creative, and Bold require an active Job Search Pass or complimentary paid access. Switch to Classic any time without losing your written content.

What's the difference between drafts and published resumes?

Drafts live in your account and only you can see them — you can have unlimited drafts on any plan. Publishing turns a draft into a public link at cvpoet.com/@you that anyone with the URL can view. Free plan supports 1 published resume; a pass lifts the cap.

Can I have multiple resumes for different jobs?

Yes. Create as many drafts as you want, one per application if you like, and publish them under different links. Free publishes one at a time; with a pass you can publish all of them.

Can AI tailor my resume to a job description?

Yes. In the editor, open Match a job, paste the job description, and choose Tailor with AI. It rewrites your summary and work bullets to cover the keywords the job asks for, using only experience already in your resume, and you accept or skip each change. AI tailoring requires a Job Search Pass and is subject to the weekly fair-use allowance. Free includes three successful AI writing actions per account, with no reset.

Can I write a cover letter in CVPoet?

Yes, on every plan. Open Cover letters in your account, start one from a resume so your name and contact details are filled in, write it, and download it as a PDF. With a pass, Write it with AI drafts the letter from your resume and the job description, and you edit the result.

Are CVPoet resumes ATS-friendly?

Yes. All templates produce clean, machine-parseable PDFs — no images-as-text, no background gradients behind text, no exotic fonts. Section structure is semantic and the text layer is selectable, so the major ATS systems parse your resume cleanly.

Export & Sharing

How do I export my resume to PDF?

Click Download in the editor. We render your resume on our servers and send you a clean PDF — selectable text, A4 sizing, no print-dialog tricks. It takes a few seconds.

Will my PDF have a watermark?

Never. Free or paid, your PDF never carries a CVPoet watermark. This is a founding promise of the product, not a marketing feature we might revoke later.

Can I get a public link to share?

Yes. Hit Publish in the editor and your resume goes live at cvpoet.com/@your-username. Share that link on LinkedIn, paste it in a job application, or text it to a recruiter. Saved edits can take up to two minutes to appear for other visitors.

Can I export to formats other than PDF?

PDF is our export format today, and it downloads with no watermark, selectable text, and clean A4 sizing. DOCX export is on our roadmap.

Privacy & Security

How do you protect my data?

We use TLS encryption in transit, secure servers, and follow strict privacy practices. Your data is never sold to third parties. We're GDPR compliant and regularly audit our security measures. Read our Privacy Policy for complete details.

Who can see my resume?

Drafts are private — only you can see them when signed in. Anyone with the public link can view your published CV, including any contact details you include. We ask search engines not to index it, but this does not make the link private. Unpublishing can take up to two minutes to remove the public page for other visitors.

Do you store my resume content?

Yes — we store your resume content in our database so you can come back and edit it. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We never read or look at the content of individual resumes except in narrow support scenarios where you've explicitly asked for help.

What happens to my data if I delete my account?

When you delete your account, all your personal data — drafts, published resumes, settings, history — is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days. This action cannot be undone, so please export any important data first.
